Exercise Your Right To Health

THERE'S more than exercise equipment awaiting visitors to the new Health and Fitness Supplies shop at Salamander Bay.

Qualified advice is also available on anything from the right type of treadmill to the most suitable nutrition for individual lifestyles.

``When people come in and ask for advice, I like to suggest what is best for them personally not like a lot of other places that just want to sell them something," said the owner of the centre, Leon Sidoti.

Mr Sidoti also owns the Health and Fitness Supplies Australia outlet at Cardiff.

He said an increasing number of people were now becoming aware of the need to exercise in order to maintain their health.

``Australia is developing into a very obese nation and surveys have shown regular exercise can help them to avoid such health problems as heart attacks," he said.

``I've also seen surveys showing that more than 50per cent of the Australian population has diabetes, even if they are not aware of it.

``Diet and exercise can help with this, too.

``I've owned my own gym and I'm a personal trainer so I'm interested in talking to people about what is best for their health and advising them about nutrition."

The service offered by the centres is the across-the-board type from furnishing an entire gymnasium to providing a single piece of equipment for the keep-fit enthusiast.

``Some people want to set up their own equipment at home and we can advise them about what is best for their needs," Mr Sidoti said.

``Not everyone likes going to the gym.

``Some people are self-conscious about exercising in public.

``A lot of them even prefer to walk at home because of problems such as the weather and even safety factors."

Mr Sidoti said exercise was suitable and beneficial for people of all ages.

``Everyone from kids up to the elderly can benefit from it," he said.

``I've seen people up to 90 years old exercising and getting something out of it," Mr Sidoti said.
